CORE DESIGN STUDY FOR A SMALL MODULAR BOILING WATER REACTOR

The hybrid Small Modular Boiling Water Reactor (SMBWR) is a new conceptual design of BWR-type SMR. main features SMBWR include natural circulation loop in its coolant recirculation system and external superheaters integrated into the steam cycle. A full core analysis performed with nodal diffusion code PANTHER using homogenised constant libraries generated by WIMS. study compared number geometry configurations fuel management schemes to suppress excess reactivity throughout depletion. Three options for aspect ratio same power density are investigated aim assess effect on neutronic thermal-hydraulic performance SMBWR. It found that thin tall configuration (192 assemblies 3.60 m) showed least favourable out three as it has largest pressure drop thus requires taller chimney develop circulation.
